Program Note:
Schubert spent the summer of 1819 at the summer home of Sylvester Paumgartner, an amateur cellist and music patron. He wrote the ‘ trout’ Piano Quintet as a thank you gift for Paumgartner. The composition has become one of the most beloved chamber music compositions of all time.
