“Allegro ma non tanto” from the Oboe d’Amore Concerto BWV 1055 by Johann Bach

Performers:
George Figueroa, violin; Jeffrey Thurston, violin; Kevin Darrow, English Horn; Drew Ricciardi, viola; and Aron Ryder, cello

Concert:
May 2019

Program Note:
Bach’s sparkling “Allegro ma non tanto” (fast but not too much) begins with a light dance that is contrasted with the dark tones of the English Horn. This is a difficult movement that requires a diligent group ready to move with each other deftly and leaves the audience with an uplifting sense of joy.
